Rotogravure Doctor Blades
FLXON is the exclusive distributor of SWED/CUT® performance doctor blades in North America which include a variety of doctor blade materials ranging from economical reliability to high performance options all designed to boost your pressroom’s performance. SWED/CUT® rotogravure doctor blades are manufactured with high quality carbon, stainless, and coated steels known for their micro-refined structures. This allows for slow, even edge wear that are a higher strength which reduce friction and exhibit less flex to achieve a cleaner wipe.

Recommendations
We always begin our relationships with printers by learning what improvement opportunities exist within your pressroom. By working together our knowledgeable team will help you determine the best course of action to eliminate print defects, reduce downtime, increase speeds, slow cylinder wear and lower cost-of-goods sold to achieve a higher gross margin.
Haze
To combat against haze, we typically recommend the Microkote® G 0.08” blade with a lamella tip profile.
Streaks
For applications where streaking is a problem, we recommend the super-refined filtering capability of our G2 Qube® ink filter. It is a proven workhorse that will reduce and eliminate even the smallest damaging debris and known to give years of service.
Cylinder Wear
All of our SWED/CUT® doctor blades are highly beneficial in eliminating wear and damage to cylinders, especially Microkote® G. This particular high-density carbon steel material features a micro-refined coating that lowers blade-to-cylinder friction.
Steel vs. Plastic Doctor Blades
Fine Tip
The benefit steel has over all forms of plastic doctor blades is it’s rigidity relative to thinness. Steel allows for a very fine tip of less than .003” to meter ink while still resisting flex. If a blade is flexing then it stops metering tightly and increases wear.
Wear
High performance grades of steel like SWED/CUT® have the ability to wear slowly and evenly so that the tip remains consistent and smooth, providing optimal metering. Plastic blades tend to wear quicker and newer generations of plastic blades have brittle tips that break and wear unevenly.
Consistent Clean Metering
The two above issues play into a steel blade’s ability to consistently meter ink thus reducing print defects associated with dot gain and excessive ink transferring from the anilox to the plate.
